Plumpton was buzzing with expectation after Tony McCoy won on the first three of his seven mounts yesterday. Visions of him emulating Frankie Dettori's "magnificent seven" were conjured up when he scored on Totally Yours, Music Please and Farfadet V. But Beatson, who won the Owl Holdings Handicap Chase for the second year running, put paid to such dreams. Beatson, ridden by Brendan Powell with blunt spurs, led at the 10th and galloped on strongly to deny Karar by three and a half lengths.

McCoy, however, still made it a quartet, winning the closing Ladbroke Novices' Handicap Hurdle on Martin Pipe's Unsinkable Boxer, who easily beat Tellaporky by eight lengths.

Totally Yours also won with the minimum of fuss, cruising past Mad Alex approaching two out to win the Brighton Claiming Hurdle by 20 lengths.

Music Please, making her fencing debut in the Henfield Maiden Chase, was ridden out by McCoy to score by a length and three quarters from Bay Lough.

Trainer Venetia Williams said: "I thought we were crazy to run in this heavy ground, but it seems it is not that bad out there."

McCoy's treble was completed in the Ditchling Novices Hurdle when Pipe's Farfadet V made all to score easily by 15 lengths from Be My Mot.

Wishing William led after the last in the Galleano Challenge Cup Chase to beat long time leader Our-own-fellow by three lengths.
