Cavan, who led by 1-6 to 1-4 at half-time, will rue missed goal chances.

After half-time, Patrick Early, who was Tyrone's best forward, proved to be their saviour with a 15th minute goal.

From that to the finish, it was a case of dogged defending by Cavan as Tyrone searched for scores. Time was almost up when McCreesh won possession from a throw up and raced in to shoot over.
