Sonya McGinn led the Irish women Badmington team to a 5-0 victory over Spain after beating Azerbaijan by the same margin on Saturday in their opening series at the Uber Cup Tournament at Sandefjord, Norway, yesterday (Sun). She defeated Dolores Marco, the Spanish number one, 11-1, 11-8.

Elaine Kiely then beat Anna Ferrer 11-7, 12-9 despite being taken to a tie-break. The pair won their doubles 7-4.

In the men's Thomas Cup tournament the All Ireland side beat Brazil 5-0.
