Leinster MFC Preliminary round robin/Longford 1-17 Wexford 1-11: A hugely improved Longford performance, from their win over Wexford last weekend, earned Gerry Clarke's charges another shot at Wicklow next Saturday, at a neutral venue, for a place against Offaly in the quarter-finals of the Leinster minor football championship.
Team captain Denis McGoldrick was Longford's star, notching an impressive 1-6 for the winners at Pearse Park.
Ray O'Halloran's goal helped Wicklow lead by a point at the interval but Longford responded well in the second half.
Two well-struck points from McGoldrick and further scores from Kieran Gill, Pauric Gill, Andrew Lynch and Martin Flood sealed this deserved win. They thus must now meet again to decide who advances from the group.
