Scottish Premier League: Reigning champions Rangers lost 2-1 at Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League yesterday to extend their winless run to eight matches in all competitions, the worst in the club's history.
The Glasgow side are still 15 points behind city rivals Celtic and they also had captain Barry Ferguson sent off in stoppage time for his second booking to complete a miserable day.
Rangers manager Alex McLeish, though, reacted angrily to questions about his future.
Chairman David Murray has given McLeish until early December to turn around the poor form and, when asked where this latest defeat left him, McLeish said: "You spoke to the chairman, we'll leave it at that.
"You heard what he said . . . does he change his mind? Very rarely."
McLeish conceded his side had suffered their "biggest doing" of the season in the first 45 minutes when they conceded two goals inside 25 minutes.
"The start was very, very poor," he said. "I have to hold my hands up and say Hibs gave us a doing in the first half.
"I felt we were second prizes all over so you have to hand it to Hibs. That's probably the biggest doing we have had in 45 minutes this season."
McLeish dismissed suggestions that he might quit after Rangers's final Champions League game on December 6th against Inter Milan and said: "I have said before I don't quit, I am not a quitter. I would love to be able to get to the stage where things are rosy in the garden and I can say, well, maybe it's time I looked at pastures new."
Derek Riordan forced the ball over the line at the back post for Hibernian's 18th-minute opener after Ivan Sproule finished a fabulous run into the box with a low pass across the face of goal.
Riordan set up a spectacular second for striker Garry O'Connor seven minutes later. He whipped over a first-time cross for O'Connor to side foot a terrific volley from 12 metres into the bottom right-hand corner.
Ferguson pulled a goal back for Rangers when he rifled in a 20-metre shot which ripped through a packed box and took a slight deflection past goalkeeper Ziggy Malkowski in 59 minutes.
But third-placed Hibernian could have had more as they secured their first home win over Rangers in five years.
Leaders Celtic suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat by basement club Dunfermline on Saturday but still stay top after rivals Hearts drew at Motherwell. Dunfermline took a first-half lead when Greg Ross slotted the ball home from six metres after Andy Todd nodded it down to him on 17 minutes.
Celtic have 38 points and Hearts 37 from 16 matches after their 1-1 draw at Motherwell. Motherwell's on-loan Rangers player Brian McLean scored the 40th minute opener and Paul Hartley levelled with a last-minute penalty.
