Outside of swimming the name Siobhan McNally would not register as a possible future star but at Longford SC the teenager is causing a big splash, campaigning out of the comparatively new midlands club.

Backstroke specialist, McNally has crashed the elite Team 2000 barrier, the first member of her club to achieve the feat.

Currently one of Swim Ireland's biggest prospects, she has already shown ability to deal with the big occasion when competing at the European Youths Olympics.

Dave McCullough, Swim Ireland's director of swimming, enthuses over the strides being made by the fledgling Longford club. "We have been noting their progress, the club coach Mel McGann is doing great work there."

McNally sets off next week with eight of her Irish team-mates to compete on the British Grand Prix circuit in Swansea. Lee Kelleher of Sunday's Well makes a welcome return for the Swansea trip.
