News Round-up: The GAA and the Australian Football League met in Dubai on Wednesday and yesterday to discuss a possible resumption of the International Rules Series.
The GAA was represented by president Nickey Brennan, Pat Daly and Anthony Tohill. The AFL was represented by chief executive Andrew Demetriou and Kevin Sheehan.
The meeting focused largely on the issue of playing rules, including disciplinary issues, and the overall organisation and regulation of any new series.
Both parties will report back to their respective bodies.
Meanwhile, Tyrone star Ciarán Gourley will enter the record books when he steps onto Croke Park for the All-Ireland JFC final next week.
He will become the first player to play in All-Ireland finals at school, club, and all three intercounty grades - minor, under-21 and senior. Gourley's Rock side will take on Munster champions Canovee of Cork at Croke Park on February 17th. In 1997, he was a member of the St Patrick's Dungannon team that won the Hogan Cup in a Croke Park victory over Castlebar.
Later that season he was on the losing side when Tyrone lost the All-Ireland minor final to Laois.
But in 2000, Gourley won his first All-Ireland medal as a Tyrone player when the under-21s defeated Limerick at Mullingar. In 2003, he helped them win a first Sam Maguire in an historic final against neighbours Armagh.
"At the moment, I'm just focusing on the club final, and things like that will be nice to reflect on whenever you're finished playing," he said.
