US TOUR: Phil Mickelson kept himself in the hunt for a 32nd PGA Tour title when he came from two-shots back to open a two-shot lead after birdieing the par three 16th in the final round in the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Five birdies in the first 11 holes had Mickelson four clear but a double-bogey six at the 12th gave the chasing pack some hope.
Tiger Woods and Aaron Oberholser were in second place with overnight leader Brett Wetterich lying in third place on 12 under par.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Des Smyth tied for fourth place as Gil Morgan followed up a play-off loss last week with his 25th career Champions Tour victory on Sunday when winning the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.
In a battle with Hale Irwin, Morgan finally edged Irwin to earn a title at Pebble Beach 15 years after his bid for the US Open ended in disaster.
Morgan final round of 67 gave him a 14-under-par total of 202 with Irwin two shots back on 204 after a 69.
Smyth, who was tied with Morgan and Irwin after two round, slipped back with a 73 for 208.
Final totals: 202 - G Morgan 70 65 67 204 - H Irwin 70 65 69 206 - T Watson 67 70 69 208 - Des Smyth (Irl) 71 64 73, S Simpson 72 69 67, D Pooley 70 71 67, 209 - D A Weibring 72 67 70, J Ozaki (Jpn) 72 65 72, J Haas 73 65 71.
NATIONS CUP: Despite Shane Lowry shoting a final round of five-under-par 68, Ireland lost out to England on a countback in the Portugal Nations Cup at Vale de Lobo's Ocean Course in the Algarve yesterday.
England, who entered the last round trailing Ireland by five shots and Sweden by one, had the best team score in the final 18 holes (137), thanks to Ben Evans's 68 and a 69 from Chris Wood.
Ireland's only sub-par round of a frustrating day was the fine effort posted by Lowry, that went with the 74 carded by Simon Ward for a 142.
Both teams stood with a 420 aggregate score and it was the 75 from Ben Parker - against the 77 on the card of Niall Kearney - that gave England victory.
However, there was consolation for Lowry when he clinched the individual crown with a score of 205 (70-67-68), a one-shot victory over European Individual Champion Benjamim Hebert (70-69-67) from France. The bronze medal went to England's Chris Wood (71-67-69), a further shot back.
LPGA TOUR:Holding a slim lead entering the final round, Sherri Steinhauer persevered on the back nine on Sunday to secure a victory at the State Farm Classic.
With three players breathing down her neck, Steinhauer fired a five-under 67 - highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th.
She shot a 33 on the final nine holes en route to a 17-under-par 271 for the tournament.
It was some much-needed clutch play by Steinhauer, who finished just one shot clear of Christina Kim.
Kim shot a six-under-par 66 on the tournament's final day to total a 16-under 272.
Final totals: 271 - S Steinhauer (US) 67 66 71 67 272 - C Kim (US) 69 66 71 66 274 - R Hetherington (Aus) 69 69 67 69, A Sorenstam (Swe) 71 65 71 67 276 - A Park 69 70 69 68 277 - J Jang (Kor) 72 69 71.
