Division Two Round-up: In Division Two A, Westmeath defeated Derry, 1-20 to 2-10, with an exhibition of point-taking from Andrew Mitchell who, along with John Shaw and Enda Loughlin, proved the difference between the sides Cusack Park, Mullingar yesterday.
Westmeath had moved three points clear when Seán McBride hammered home a goal to restore parity. Westmeath's interval lead of 0-11 to 1-5 was stretched further with John Shaw striking a point. A Conor Quinn goal gave renewed hope to the visitors but Blaine Lehart sealed the win with a 62nd-minute goal.
In the other Division Two A game Roscommon defeated Kildare 1-14 to 1-9 on Saturday. Leaders Offaly had a bye.
In Division Two B, Carlow substitute Robert Foley was his side's hero as he scored a winning goal in the 70th minute against Meath in their 3-7 to 3-6 victory at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, yesterday.
Kerry crushed Wicklow, 5-24 to 2-3 at Lerrig yesterday. Michael Conway and John Mike Dooley hit two early Kerry goals. Wicklow responded with a goal by goalkeeper Thomas Finn from a penalty and in the 22nd minute John Kehoe got a second as Kerry led 2-13 to 2-3 at the interval. Kerry added goals from Errol Tuohy, John Mike Dooley and substitute Darren Dineen.
Trailing by 2-8 to 0-1 at the interval, Sligo produced a better second-half performance although never succeeding in breaking London's dominance, at Ruislip, yesterday. On this showing London, who won 3-9 to 1-8, could give Kerry a close run next Sunday.
