The two Irish crews had mixed fortunes as the 99-boat Bord Gais 470 Europeans on Dublin Bay moved into its final phase yesterday.

The Women's event is almost at its halfway stage with six races sailed. Greek World and European champions Sofia Bekatorou and Amelia Tsoulfa hold a six-point lead over Sydney 2000 Gold medallists Jenny Armstrong and Belinda Stowell. So far, the Australian pair have scored one first against the leaders' three wins.

In the Men's Gold fleet, Ukrainians Eugeniy and Igor hold a comfortable lead over the Israeli pairing of Gidi Kiger and Udi Gal. The leaders here have turned out a highly consistent score line of 4-3-3 though a win for their main challengers could yet threaten in the next four days.

Spain's Manuel and Paz have firmly established their intentions in the Silver fleet with three wins yesterday. Ireland's Gerbil Owens and Ross Killian were forced out of the third race of the day following damage to a mast spreader. The pair currently lie mid-way in this fleet. Ireland's women crew of Ciara Peelo and Karena Knaggs remain at the bottom of their group but a 19th yesterday was a welcome boost tot their fortunes.
