That roaring juggernaut will seem a million miles away for local cricketers as they turn the key and rumble into a new domestic season which gets under way this weekend with the opening clashes in the Dublin Grass Machinery 45-Overs League. Former Ireland captain Jason Molins, who returned to play in Dublin, makes his debut for Leinster in their Section A clash against Old Belvedere at Rathmines today.

Jettisoned by former Ireland coach Adrian Birrell, the talented opener will be keen to get back on the radar of selectors in his bid to return to the international fold.

Leinster have also signed a new professional in Keeley Todd, an all-rounder from the Waitakere Club in Auckland, while the return of South African Byron Vermaark, who played for the side in 2006, gives them a strong look.

Leinster will be keen to make up for last year, whethey won their three group games only to be disqualified from the competition due to a player registration issue.

Malahide, who should provide the big challenge to Leinster in Section A, include new pro Jimmy Henry from Sydney for today's trip to CYM.

After a miserable season last year that saw them win just one game in all competitions, Pembroke welcome back Brían O'Rourke after his time at Rush for today's Section C clash against Munster Reds at Sydney Parade.

Early-season Fingal bragging rights will be up for grabs in today's other game, where Irish Senior Cup winners North County travel to take on Rush in Section D.

The pick of tomorrow's ties takes place at Anglesea Road where Merrion play hosts to a Railway Union side that includes former all-rounder Thinus Fourie.

The Ireland player made the short move to Park Avenue during the winter and joins a very strong squad that includes fellow internationals Kevin O'Brien, Kenny Carroll and Trent Johnston, who has taken a break from the national team.

Railway have also signed 22-year-old Australian all-rounder Trent Copeland, while left-arm seamer Carlo Rendall has joined from Old Belvedere.

Meanwhile, Leinster League and Cup double winners Clontarf have Australian Rod Hokin back for their opening game at home against Pembroke tomorrow.
