CRICKET:JOHN MOONEY continued his brilliant form on his return to domestic cricket as he helped North County claim a place in the semi-finals of the Lewis Hohn Williams Senior Cup in a comprehensive 177-run victory over Malahide at Balrothery on Saturday.

The 27-year-old all-rounder hit a century and took five wickets.

County were struggling somewhat at lunch at 124 for five, but a sixth-wicket partnership of 91 between Mooney and South African professional Francois van der Merwe helped them post 281, with Mooney eventually departing for 102, an innings that included 10 fours and two sixes.

Mooney then ran through Malahide’s middle order, taking five wickets for 21 runs as they were bowled out for 104.
