Goodwood report:Ladies' Day at Glorious Goodwood was somewhat short of sweltering temperatures and traditional summer weather, but the sun certainly shone on Ryan Moore, who dominated proceedings with a 1,979 to 1 four-timer.
The champion jockey completed a clean sweep of the Group races on day three of the meeting, highlighted by Allegretto's victory in the ABN Amro Goodwood Cup. He took his tally for the week to five as Michael Stoute's filly swept from the rear of the field to land the prestigious staying race for owners Cheveley Park Stud at odds of 8 to 1.
Moore said: "To ride a winner here on any day is nice, but to ride four in a day is special. I've been getting good rides, and riding for people like Sir Michael Stoute and Richard Hannon - I should be riding winners, shouldn't I? But winning the championship is not possible this year, although I'd like to get to 100 winners." Allegretto's win was her third Group Two success and she added to her Henry II Stakes victory in May by seeing off Veracity by half a length, with the 6 to 4 favourite Geordieland weakening to fifth.
Moore showed a plethora of the qualities on the undercard that make him such hot property. The prize for work rate should be allotted to his no-holds-barred effort on Stoute's Hi Calypso (3-1 joint-favourite) in the Lillie Langtry Fillies' Stakes.
Moore refused to give up on Philip Newton's home-bred in a Salisbury handicap last time and again she started to pick off her rivals from the back, eventually getting past Wannabe Posh to score by half a length.
Moore out-thought his rivals in the five-furlong Audi Stakes on Moorhouse Lad (10-1) as, along with Classic Encounter, he stuck to the far side with the remainder migrating to the stands rail. Bryan Smart's runner showed blistering pace and when his companion weakened, he was well clear of 7 to 2 favourite Enticing, who could not pull back a two-length deficit.
Docofthebay (4-1) has had his attitude questioned in the past, but Moore threw the proverbial kitchen sink at him to take the De Boer Stakes by half a length.
It was compensation for trainer Jamie Osborne, who said: "He's not easy, but was ridden by an inspired jockey.
