Both Klairon Davis and Grimes look set to travel to Sandown on Saturday for the Tingle Creek Chase and the William Hill Handicap Hurdle respectively. Racing in Britain has been hit by the cold snap in recent days but Sandown's clerk of the course, Andrew Cooper, yesterday forecast good ground for Saturday.

"We had one inch of snow here overnight but compared to Epsom, which had four inches, it was nothing and it's virtually all gone now. We could have raced today," Cooper said.

He added: "The ground on the chase track is good and it's a little bit easier on the hurdles course. The forecast is for more sharp frosts and wintery showers but I see no reason for the ground to be any different by Saturday."

Klairon Davis is as low as 7 to 4 favourite for the Tingle Creek Chase but trainer Arthur Moore has the option of the Hot Power Chase at Fairyhouse on Sunday if he feels that the going will not be suitable at Sandown.

"We will leave a decision very late. Sandown is the preferred option but we will follow nature," Moore said yesterday.

Christy Roche will allow Grimes to carry topweight in the William Hill Hurdle if the ground doesn't become worse than good to soft and Conor O'Dwyer will take the ride.

"He's really well but it's asking a lot for a four-year-old to win with 12st. He'll find trying to give 11lb to David Nicholson's mare Potters Gale a mighty task. But the ground in Ireland is bad so we're coming over," Roche said.
