Racing News: Ryan Moore staked claims for a first jockeys' championship with a 16 to 1 treble at Lingfield yesterday - but the former champion apprentice all but ruled out any title talk.
Moore scored on Silver Blue (11 to 4) for Richard Hannon, Sir Monty (9 to 4) for Amanda Perrett, and St Leger hope Hard Top (4 to 9) for Michael Stoute, leaving him on 64 winners in the race for the title.
"The title would be nice, but I'm about 20 behind and though there is a lot of racing and I'll be doing my best, it's a lot to make up. A lot depends on whether I get the rides and the right ones," he admitted.
Though he has ground to make up on Robert Winston, Jamie Spencer and Seb Sanders, he is at the top of his game and underlined his abundant talent with two contrasting rides.
Hard Top, making only his second start in the extended one-mile three-furlong Come Racing Here On Saturday Evening Maiden Stakes, ran very green on this, his seasonal debut. He finally picked up approaching the two-furlong marker and he stayed on impressively to win by five lengths, earning a quote of 14 to 1 for the Ladbrokes St Leger with the sponsors.
Moore's skill was evident earlier when guiding Silver Blue to an eight-length success over Sharp Thrust in Division Two of the Go Racing At Folkestone Tomorrow Evening Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
Perrett supplied Moore's other winner when Sir Monty took the extended one-mile, three-furlong Whips And Tees Handicap by a length and three-quarters from Busaco.
Spencer is the favourite to win the jockeys' championship and Sweetest Revenge, the 7 to 2 favourite, gave him another winner in his quest, landing the five-furlong Winterhalter Fillies' Handicap by a length and a half.
Alan King is really starting to fire and Shogun Prince (3 to 1) cut down his rivals to land the first division of the maiden in the hands of JD Smith.
