IRISH JOCKEY Davy Moran enjoyed a valuable success in the Woodbine Oaks in Toronto on Sunday night when successful on the ex-Jim Bolger-trained Roan Inish.
A maiden after three starts for Bolger as a juvenile, Roan Inish has thrived in Canada for trainer Carolyn Costigan and the filly sprang an 11 to 1 surprise at the weekend in a race worth almost €400,000. Canada’s most prestigious race, the Queens Plate, could be next up for Roan Inish.
In other news, Aidan O’Brien has outlined how he plans to bring St Nicholas Abbey back to action for an autumn campaign after deciding to give the colt the whole of June off.
Europe’s champion juvenile of 2009 finished only sixth in the 2,000 Guineas and was withdrawn from the Epsom Derby just five days beforehand due to muscle problems. “Hopefully he’ll have a trial before he goes in one of the big races in the autumn,” O’Brien said.
