Noureddine Morceli, Olympic 1,500 metres champion and double world record-holder, is a surprise entry for next weekend's World Cross-Country Championships in Belfast.

The Algerian plans to contest Saturday's `short' race, a fourkilometre test, introduced last year to encourage leading middle-distance track names into the event.
