FBD FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Mayo 0-14 Roscommon 1-9MAYO REPELLED a second-half comeback to win their third game in succession yesterday in Ballinlough. The game seemed to be heading towards a routine Mayo victory as the Connacht champions brought a five-point advantage into the interval.

But the home side produced their best 30 minutes under new manager Des Newton to draw level by the 57th minute.

Kevin Higgins’ spectacular goal in the 51st minute ignited the Rossies’ revival and further points from John Rogers and Donal Shine left it all square with three minutes remaining.

However, Mayo steadied themselves in the closing moments and points from full forward Barry Moran and Alan Dillon edged James Horan’s men over the line.

Roscommon responded after the interval, but their gallant effort fell just short.
