The return to a mile for Maytpleasethecourt in the Kaliber Handicap can give backers the ideal wind up to the Listowel festival this afternoon. After winning over nine furlongs at Tramore and a mile at Tralee, the John Mulhern-trained filly reverted to sprinting at the Curragh last time but although she started favourite, it didn't prove a profitable move. Maytpleasethecourt could never get in a blow and trailed in eighth behind the runaway winner Pelmeny.

What Tramore and especially Tralee showed is that this filly is best when arriving on the scene off a strong pace and hitting the front as late as possible, using her high cruising speed to maximum effect.

Although there are quite a number in this race that also prefer waiting tactics, horses such as Wray and Euphoric, Maytpleasethecourt should get her strong pace today and with Jamie Spencer's confidence sure to be high after a good week already, she looks a reasonable bet.

Balla Sola has been an expensive colt for this column after the bit went through his mouth in Galway, hotting up in the Curragh's Tattersalls Race and having his saddle slip at Leopardstown last time but all things being equal he should break his duck in the opener.

Charlie Swan looks to have a couple of excellent chances with Promalee in the novices hurdle and Greenflag Princess in the winners chase.

The latter hasn't run since May when bolting up by a distance at Killarney, after winning her bumper by a similar margin. Jimmy Mangan's mare looks to have a lot of potential, a comment that certainly applies to Promalee who won his first hurdle race here earlier in the week and should love the extra distance today.
