CONNACHT U-21 FOOTBALL FINAL/Mayo 1-9...Galway 0-11 Mayo snatched a dramatic win over All-Ireland under-21 champions Galway in the Connacht final in Tuam after substitute Damian Munnelly drove over the winning points.
Mayo senior goalkeeper Fintan Ruddy converted a third-minute 45 to open the scoring but Micheál Meehan equalised and later got a second point to level it at 0-4 each.
Galway led by 0-5 to 0-4 at the break with John Devane, Nicholas Joyce and Ciaran Murphy completing their midway total.
Alan Dillon (two) and Pat Harte replied. Galway lost Matthew Clancy early in the game but battled hard after Mayo got the game's only goal through Andy Moran in the second half.
At one stage, Mayo led 1-8 to 0-6 but Galway fought back bravely to draw level through a flurry of points by Nicholas Joyce and Meehan.
However, Mayo had the last say when Munnelly kicked a splendid point from far out to ensure victory in a hectic finale.
