Tennis / Thailand Open: Andy Murray will face the darling of the Thailand Open crowds in today's semi-finals after a stunning victory over US Open semi-finalist Robby Ginepri yesterday.
Awaiting wild-card Murray in the Bangkok final four will be Paradorn Srichaphan, the biggest superstar in Thai sport, who received a walkover into the last four after injured Lleyton Hewitt's withdrawal.
There was no such charity for Murray who did it the hard way against Ginepri, fighting back from one set down to reach the first significant semi-final of his fledgling career. The 18-year-old Scot showed no little grit in winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 against a player beaten in five scintillating sets by Andre Agassi at the US Open at the start of September. World number one Roger Federer faces Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in the other semi-final.
"Winning against two top-50 players in a row is a pretty big deal for me, and to get to my first semi-final is also great," said Murray. "It's going to be a big match for me and I'm looking forward to it. I'd like to get through to the final and play my first ATP final against the best player in the world."
