RACING:JIM BOLGER'S Gile Na Greine may have over six lengths in hand on Music Show on Newmarket form, but bookmakers believe the English-trained filly will reverse that in Sunday's Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh.
Music Show has been installed a 4 to 1 favourite with Paddy Power for the classic, and at least one of her other Irish rivals believes the layers have got it right.
Lady Springbank’s trainer Paul Deegan, who used to work for Music Show’s handler, Mick Channon, believes the bare form of the Newmarket Guineas run earlier this month could be deceptive.
The stands side group looked to be at a major advantage after rain softened the Newmarket ground and Music Show was marooned in the centre of the track as Gile Na Greine finished a close third behind Special Duty.
“I would have more faith in what happened on the far side than the near side and the boss’s filly must be respected,” Deegan said yesterday.
Lady Springbank is a 12 to 1 chance, and instead of Gile Na Greine it is Tommy Stack’s unbeaten filly Lolly For Dolly who Power rate as the major home hope.
Lolly For Dolly was supplemented into the race for €32,500 yesterday and Stack’s son Fozzy said: “She won her trial (Athasi) so easily she deserves her chance. The ground won’t be an issue. It won’t be any quicker or slower than good.”
Up to 5mm of rain was forecast for the Curragh last night and track manager Paul Hensey expects to have to water at least the round course before the weekend action starts.
Another major supplementary entry was Godolphin’s Prix Ganay winner Cutlass Bay, who was put into the Tattersalls Gold Cup at a cost of €25,000.
The former French-based horse dominates the seven-strong entry along with Aidan O’Brien’s Fame And Glory, although Dermot Weld’s Chinese White could attempt to secure a first Group One prize in the 10-furlong event.
