Schools Rugby Round-up: It was only three years ago that Naas CBS were first mapped in schools rugby and they made quite an impression in winning the Leinster Duff Junior Cup.

That side has grown into quite a force as the school takes its first tilt at the Leinster Section A McMullen Senior Cup. It could make a bold bid for glory. Certainly, Gorey Community School had no answer to Naas in their quarter-final in Carlow yesterday.

Wingers Darach Lacey, with a hat-trick, and Gavin Dooley, with a brace, accounted for five of the eight tries in a 44-0 win. Wilson's Hospital will be next in their sights after they upset Skerries Community College, 15-7, to make the last four with touchdowns from Andrew Hyde and Louis Robey in Navan.

Mount Temple looked powerful in their 44-3 destruction of St Mary's Drogheda at ALSAA. The threats were spread throughout their side and it was reflected in the fact there were six individual try scorers with Ian Denham kicking 14 points.

St Patrick's Navan will provide much sturdier opposition in the semi-final. It looked like plain sailing for them against St Paul's Raheny in the first half when tries from Karl Manning and Brian McKeever and the kicking of Eamon Sheridan gave St Patrick's a 17-0 lead at the break. They had to resist a brave comeback from St Paul's as Stephen O'Brien and Ross Power both crossed for converted tries. It was left to Sheridan to push Navan clear with a 68th-minute penalty.
