BASKETBALL/Superleague: Neptune can seal the ESB Superleague championship on Sunday if they manage to beat St Vincent's in what will be the last game of the season. St Vincent's were defeated by Neptune 87-85 back in December and will be without key player Kevin Foley again this weekend.
Neptune came within a game of the title after their 96-83 victory over Waterford Crystal on Wednesday night and are now favourites to regain the trophy last held in 2000. Neptune's Kieran O'Brien played well for intervarsity champions UCC last weekend, regaining some lost confidence following a recent assault. Gordon Fitzgerald's availability has also been confirmed for this crunch game.
UCD Marian host second-placed Star of the Sea tomorrow night, but even if the Belfast club win they need Neptune to lose to St Vincent's on Sunday. Star are travelling to Dublin with a full team, with John Leahy training and increasing his court time weekly. Gareth Maguire is in sparkling form this half of the season, top-scoring on 31-points against Limerick last weekend.
