Saturday's Previews:A total of 18 horses will line up in the Hennessy at Newbury today and also in Fairyhouse's highlight where Tony Martin will be hoping that Newbay Prop can set up a possible big race double just minutes before the off in England.
Patsy Hall is the Co Meath trainer's candidate at Newbury and he makes up part of a four-strong Irish team. However, before all that Newbay Prop will attempt a double of his own and try to repeat his exciting success of last year in the Ladbrokes Porterstown Chase.
The Martin runner is a stone higher in the ratings compared to his short-head victory of 2006 here but there was a lot to like about the way he returned to action at Punchestown when a running on fifth from the back of the field behind tomorrow's Royal Bond candidate Captain Cee Bee.
Willie Mullins throws both Deutschland and Jayo at the handicap hurdle today and while the former has the best piece of handicap form in the book with a second to Emmpat here last season, Jayo was highly rated in his juvenile term only for his campaign to fall apart slightly. The horse named after Jason Sherlock can start afresh now.
Jayo's rider David Casey also teams up with Catch Me in the conditions hurdle and his overall form gives him the beating of Big Zeb while Paco Jack can concede weight all round in the Grade Three Juvenile Hurdle.
Venalmar has run into a couple of good ones in Gem Daly and Decoy Daddy in his last two starts but should be up to scoring now in the maiden hurdle.
Wexford off
The Wexford meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled due to waterlogging.
The venue endured incessant rainfall all day to leave officials with no choice but to call off the six-race National Hunt card.
"The course had a right old downpour today and it was found to be unfit for racing," explained Irish Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone.
"The ground was originally soft to heavy but the amount of rain they've had in the last couple of days left the situation untenable".
