Young Devereaux can confirm himself the latest star to run off Paul Nicholls' Somerset production line with victory at Folkestone today. The seven-year-old has some way to go before he can be compared with the likes of See More Business, Call Equiname and Flagship Uberalles.
But he is certainly heading along the right path.
Bought from Ireland for 26,000 guineas as a five-year-old, the gelding looked money well spent as he ran away with a maiden hurdle at Chepstow last winter.
He then had a minor leg injury and so missed the rest of last season, but that setback appears not to have hindered his progress.
Young Devereaux is every inch a good-class chaser on looks and should make it two wins from three starts over fences when the presence of useful hurdler Sharpical will make him a fair price too.
Enrique makes plenty of appeal in the closing Weatherbys Turf News Handicap Hurdle. His official rating of 108 is almost an insult, given the very useful form he showed on the Flat in Germany.
Flat form also points to the chance of Buzz in the Tote Exacta Coming Soon Hurdle at Carlisle. The Jonjo O'Neill-trained five-year-old carries bottom weight.
