GREG NORMAN overcame a late charge from David Frost of South Africa to win by I up in the international final and gain a spot in the semi finals of the Andersen Consulting world championship.
Norman, who beat fellow Australian Steve Elkington 4 and 3 in the morning semi finals, advances from the Wisconsin competition, with three other regional winners, to the finals which are scheduled for January
Yesterday's other semi final in the international section saw Frost defeat Nick Price of Zimbabwe 5 and 3.
Norman won the first two holes with pars, while Frost had two bogey's, and the Australian led by three holes several times. However, Frost charged back to win the 16th with a birdie and the 17th with a par to cut Norman's lead to 1 up.
Both reached the green of the par four 18th in two, then Frost missed an 18 footer for a birdie that would have sent the match to a 19th hole.
The winner of the overall tournament will receive £660,000 from a purse of £2.43 million. Norman won £66,600 for.
The other regional winners are American Scott Hoch, Sam Torrance of Scotland and Japan's Hisayuki Sasaki. In the semi finals, Norman plays Sasaki and Hoch takes on Torrance.
