Connacht League: A goal by Galway intercounty prodigy Michael Meehan helped NUI Galway to victory over Roscommon in this league at Kiltoom.
NUIG took an early grip, Brendan O'Colleran kicking three frees and Meehan one before Gary Cox collected a misplaced pass and fed Meehan who fired a low shot to the net.
With the second half characterised by a free-taking duel between Meehan and rival Jonathan Dunning, the pivotal moment proved to be NUIG goalkeeper Ronan O'Reilly's stop from Mark O'Carroll in the 47th minute. Had the goal been converted Roscommon might have seen their efforts at a late comeback reap better reward.
