Aidan O'Brien yesterday kept his options open by leaving three horses in Saturday's Racing Post Trophy. The record-breaking trainer nominated Saratoga Springs as an intended runner at Doncaster after the colt landed the Beresford Stakes last Saturday.
But at yesterday's acceptance stage he also left Dewhurst Stakes third Impressionist and 2,000 Guineas ante-post second favourite Second Empire in Britain's last Group One race of the season.
A total of 12 two-year-olds stood their ground for the £150,000 contest, including Mudeer who was supplemented by Godolphin on Saturday.
