Racing News and previews: Aidan O'Brien stressed yesterday that High Chaparral is not a definite starter in next Saturday's Irish Champion Stakes and ground conditions may yet cause the colt to be switched to France.
Longchamp's Prix Foy the following day is an alternative target for the double-Derby and Breeders' Cup winner as he continues his build up for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
O'Brien said: "We will have to see how things are early next week but the ground will be everything. Obviously I would rather go to Leopardstown because it is at home but it's not certain he will run there. We will have to see what the going is like. There is also the Prix Foy to consider."
A no-show from High Chaparral would be a blow to the Champion Stakes which already has Alamshar and Vintage Tipple committed to it, and which also has the Juddmonte and Eclipse winner Falbrav as a possible contender.
However, a switch to France would mean a truly international weekend for the O'Brien team as Hold That Tiger looks a likely runner in Belmont Park's Woodward Stakes on Saturday night. Carpanetto also looks the most likely of five Ballydoyle entries to take his chance in the Man O'War Stakes on turf.
Today's local action sees the conclusion of the controversial Tralee festival and Paul Carberry will be anxious to get back on the winning trail on Room To Room Gold in the novice hurdle after having been stood down yesterday.
Carberry was left mildly concussed on Thursday when his own mount, Fnan, struck him in the face.
Carberry is on the Kilbeggan winner Blue in the novice chase but over the trip preference is for Emperors Guest who won well at Galway last time.
Ballinrobe has its own mini-August festival this weekend and those looking for a bet today shouldn't have long to wait as Impulsif is hard to get away from in the first division of the six furlong handicap.
At the Co Mayo track tomorrow, Touch Of Ebony looks the value in the opener.
