Tony O'Connor has recovered from injury and is back on the water training. The news will be warmly welcomed, because the Neptune man, who won a silver medal in the lightweight pair in the World Championships last year, is a crucial part of a promising lightweight four which travels to the final leg of the World Cup in Lucerne next month.
The non-selection of single sculler Albert Maher for Lucerne is a mild surprise. Maher was asked to consider taking part in a double scull but declined.
The women's lightweight quad will not travel to Lucerne, but, interestingly, the Commercial heavyweight quad of Vanessa Lawrenson, Debbie Stack, Mary Hussey and Susan O'Brien will, paying for themselves.
