UCD 2 Galway United 2:A dramatic goal in the third minute of added time by striker Stephen O'Flynn earned Galway United a precious point in their bid to avoid relegation in a tense clash with UCD at Belfield Park last night.
The visiting side had that perfect start when Derek Glynn shot home on five minutes at the near post after Derek O'Brien skated past defender Brian Shortall to create the opening on the left following a clever ball by O'Flynn.
College were level on 31 minutes when the always dangerous Shane Fitzgerald again burst down the right. His low cross was missed by Peter Hynes but winger Derek Doyle was there to rifle home an effort from 10 yards out on the left.
The Students had heir noses in front a minute before the interval. An attempted Derek Doyle pass took an accidental and fortunate deflection off referee Thomas Connolly with the ball eventually falling perfectly into the path of Fitzgerald and the winger made no mistake with a clinical finish from 16 yards.
It was O'Flynn who was to have that late, late final say when looping a header over UCD goalkeeper Darren Quigley in a crowded goalmouth for what was no more than a deserved equaliser.
