Zulu Dawn, a progressive type taking on a field consisting mainly of exposed handicappers, can win the Showcase Handicap at York today. The John Hills-trained three-year-old only got off the mark last time out in a maiden event at Newbury but the form of that race looks solid.
It represented a major improvement on his previous efforts for the El Gran Senor colt, who started at 25 to 1 yet stormed into the lead inside the final furlong and quickly put two lengths between himself and Torch Song.
The runner-up, for whom connections predict a bright future, came out and won at Pontefract on Monday to give Zulu Dawn's performance a boost.
Although the Newbury victory - for which his handicap mark was not raised - came on fast ground, Zulu Dawn has also proven himself on an easy surface. Dane O'Neill, successful aboard him last time, takes the mount again and the duo can follow up.
