ALL-IRELAND SHC QUALIFIERS:ALL-IRELAND champions Kerry make one change for Sunday's Munster football final in Killarney. Last year's captain Darran O'Sullivan returns to the side in place of David Moran with Anthony Maher dropping back to centrefield in the only adjustment made by manager Jack O'Connor and his selectors to the team that beat Cork in the semi-final replay three weeks ago.
The big loss for Kerry is the suspended Paul Galvin but the Footballer of the Year didn’t start either of the Cork matches, as he was recovering from an ankle injury. He did however have a major influence on both days when introduced off the bench.
Meanwhile Galway footballers show one change to the side that snatched back a five-point deficit in injury time against Sligo last week.
Fit-again captain Michael Meehan, who came on in Salthill during the drawn match, returns to his corner forward slot in place of Paul Conroy with Joe Bergin switching to centrefield and Matt Clancy dropping back to the wing.
Sligo have delayed naming their team for tomorrow evening’s replay.
In hurling the Tipperary team to play Wexford in tomorrow’s All-Ireland hurling qualifier in Thurles shows four changes to the team heavily beaten by Cork in the Munster first round. There are debuts for David Young at right half back and Patrick Maher at right wing forward in place of Paddy Stapleton, who is injured, and John O’Brien.
Gearóid Ryan makes his first championship start in place of the suspended Brian O’Meara whereas Conor O’Brien comes back at left corner back for the injured Paul Curran.
Among a number of positional switches manager Liam Sheedy also moves All Star full back Pádraic Maher to left wing back with Declan Fanning moving to the edge of the square.
Wexford for their part make four changes for the match. Corner back Paul Roche is back in place of his clubmate Lar Prendergast.
Another Oulart-the Ballagh defender David Redmond starts having recently returned from Australia and having played as a replacement in the last round against Galway.
Suspended captain Diarmuid Lyng is replaced by Tomás Waters and Tomás Mahon starts at corner forward in place of Michael Jacob.
Meanwhile the Mayo management committee has decided against making any decision on who will succeed John O’Mahony as football manager until a review of the game in the county has been undertaken. A statement released yesterday evening read: “We do not think it is constructive for the floor to be opened to everyone as has happened on local radio this week. While many of those who have contributed have the best interests of Mayo football at heart, we do not feel that all who have voiced their opinion do.
“Therefore we believe it would be more prudent and productive if those involved at all levels of our game in the county be given the chance to voice their thoughts through the medium of this review process.”
