Before the hectic weekend schedule of the Leinster senior league matches, Wanderers stole a march on the rest of the field in group B by overcoming Old Belvedere at Anglesea Road last night.
In a game, which saw six tries shared between the sides, it was the precision kicking of Wanderers' French import, Eric Olazabal, that proved crucial at the end.
Although Old Belvedere were hindered by the departure of interprovincial full-back Peter McKenna after 28 minutes, his direct replacement John Philpott was on target with two penalties and a conversion. If there was a player that shared Olazabal's spotlight it was probably Wanderers wing Colin Leahy, who showed his clinical finishing in crossing for two tries.
