Ireland does not appear on the list of 17 countries named in an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) investigation set up after the Spanish basketball team was stripped of the gold medal when it was revealed 10 of its 12 members had no disabilities.
The investigation revealed widespread cheating by countries in the intellectual disability category and up to 100 medals may have to be returned. Two thirds of registration forms for athletes were also found to be invalid. As a result the organisation representing athletes with intellectual disabilities has been suspended from the IPC.
