Organisers tempt trio with cash incentive

Organisers of the World Cup Golf Championship are spending $1

Organisers of the World Cup Golf Championship are spending $1.4 million to entice Tiger Woods, Mark O'Meara and Colin Montgomerie to the tournament. Woods will receive $700,000, O'Meara $500,000 and Montgomerie $200,000. The money paid to the trio is just $100,000 short of the $1.5 million in prize money for the November 18th-21st tournament, the Star Daily said.

Organising chairman Abdul Aziz Ismail said the three were being paid to "conduct coaching clinics and promotional activities" during the event.

"It will be worth the money to have the three conducting clinics and promoting golf in Malaysia," he said. "Woods is an extraordinary player and he will be the crowd puller with his skills."

Woods, O'Meara and Montgomerie will also be involved in publicity work with the tourism board in a Visit Malaysia Year program, he said.

The 24-year-old Woods, who has won six titles this year, will partner world number 10 O'Meara in the two-man team event which will feature players from 32 nations. Organisers hope to attract some 10,000 spectators daily to the tournament and rake in at least two million ringgit ($526 million) from ticket sales which will be given to charity, the New Straits Times reported.
