Leinster Senior League Division one side Parkvilla provided one of the shocks of the first round of the FAI Cup when they beat Major Division side Whitehall Rangers 2-1 at Paddy Mahoney Park yesterday.

Parkvilla went behind after 74 minutes when Derek O'Connor scored after Parkvilla failed to clear Anto Brennan's corner.

But Parkvilla hit back through captain Ken Ratty. Mark Brady scored the winner eight minutes from time.

There were no real problems for Intermediate Cup holders Rockmount who beat Fanad United 1-0. Thomas Long scored the only goal 13 minutes from time.

Of the four Junior sides in the competition for the first time, Fairview Rangers twice came from behind to beat LSL side Belgrove 3-2 at Fairgreen.

Fellow Junior club Evergreen from Kilkenny had 2-0 win over Intermediate side Mullingar Athletic at Gainstown.

In an action-packed game at the AUL complex, Junior side Ballymun United lost 3-2 to Bangor Celtic of the LSL.

College Corinthians won the Cork derby, beating Temple United 2-1 at Corinthian Park with goals from Dave Morley and a Martin Higgins penalty. The matches between Leeds and St Mochtas, Clonmel Town versus Everton and Swilly Rovers against Ashtownvilla were postponed due to bad weather.
