Dennis Paulson secured his first PGA Tour win when edging out David Duval in a play-off at the Buick Classic in New York - the final warm-up event before next week's US Open.
After both players had parred the first two sudden death holes, Duval stayed alive after landing a 30-foot birdie putt at the 526-yard par-five 18th.
But he failed to make it count when missing a six-foot par-putt at the 379-yard 17th, while Paulson slotted home his effort from four feet after producing a superb recovery chip from the back of the green with his third shot.
Duval and Paulson had finished on eight under 276, after closing rounds of 69 and 68 respectively.
Duval's round included four birdies and two bogeys, while Paulson recovered from a double-bogey at the third to fire six birdies against one bogey over the final 14 holes.
Sergio Garcia had to settle for third on seven under after looking set for victory with five holes to play.
It was a fine performance from Garcia after he had opened the tournament with a 74.
Finland's Mikko Ilonen booked his place in the British Open and the Masters at Augusta next April by winning the English Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake.
Ilonen, who won the West of Ireland championship last year, will be the first Finnish golfer to play in one of the four major championships.
The Finn won 2 and 1 against Germany's Christian Reimbold, who overcame Ireland's Michael Hoey in the third round. It was the first final involving two continental Europeans in the 115-year-old history of the event.
