Tom Pernice Jr has a three-shot lead over Vijay Singh after picking up nine points in the third round of The International, which uses the Stableford scoring system.
Pernice, who captured his only PGA crown at the 1999 Buick Open, has put together three rounds in the 60s at the Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado, including back-to-back four-under 68s. He has 33 points after 54 holes.
Singh, the 1998 champion, gained 12 points and climbed from a tie for 12th with a five-under 67.
Chris Riley is third with 29 points, one better than Chris DiMarco. Woody Austin and Charles Howell are tied for fifth with 27 points.
Defending champion Ernie Els of South Africa climbed from 16th to a tie for seventh with Spain's Sergio Garcia after recording nine points. Els and Garcia have 26 points each.
