Motor Sport: In addition to Michael Cullen's demonstration laps in a Formula One Ferrari, the huge crowd at yesterday's Phoenix Park races were treated to a virtual feast of close and exciting races.

In a repeat of Saturday's dice in the Formula V race, Ken Elliott reversed the placings in scoring a close win over Paul Heavey. Brian Hearty won the Formula One Sheane Rover race.

Fiat Punto Abarth race winners were Joey Freeburn and Bill Griffin. Veteran Tommy Reid scored a nostalgic Park win. The last race of a busy day was won by Ray Moore in a Crossle.

When the Tricolour was dropped to start the first race on Saturday it marked the 100th anniversary of the first motor sport event held in Dublin's famous parkland in 1903. Fittingly, the race was dominated by Irish-built Crossle cars, with Geoff McConville taking the chequered flag ahead of PJ Fallon in a really close finish.

It was a glorious day in every sense, with the weather, the enthusiastic crowds, the atmosphere and lots of nostalgia with racing cars and drivers of different eras very much in evidence both on the tree-lined circuit and in the paddock area.
