Luke Donald (Age: 23, England): Had a 100 per cent record - four from four - in debut appearance in 1999 Walker Cup-winning team in Nairn. Student at Northwestern University, he was voted an All-American for each of past three years and won the 1999 US collegiate championship.

Nick Dougherty (Age: 19, England): The leading qualifier in 2001 British Amateur Championship. England international in 2001 and 1999. Member of Britain and Ireland side that defeated continent of Europe in last year's St Andrews Trophy. In 2000, he was under par in every amateur event. Won 1999 World Junior Championship. Won 1999 European Under-21.

Nigel Edwards (Age: 33, Wales): Works as golf co-ordinator with the Welsh Golfing Union. Welsh International, 2001-1995. Fifth, 2000 St Andrews Links Trophy. Fourth, 1998 Lytham Trophy. Won 1996 Welsh Mid Amateur.

Jamie Elson (Age: 20, England): Junior at Augusta State University. England International 2001 - 2000. Runner-up, 2001 NCAA Division Finals. Palmer Cup Team, 2000. Augusta State University Athlete of the Year, 2000. Won 1999 Palmetto Classic.

Michael Hoey (Age: 22, Ireland): An Irish international for the past three years and a former Irish strokeplay champion, the Shandon Park member has enjoyed a tremendous season which has included finishing runner-up in the West of Ireland and reaching the semi-final of the Indian Amateur. The highlight was a victory in the British Amateur Championship at Prestwick. Won 2000 North of Ireland. Won 1998 Irish Open strokeplay. Won 1997 Irish Boys. Shot 30 for the front nine in a final round 63 in the Scottish Open.

Graeme McDowell (Age: 22, Ireland): A student at the University of Alabama, this Rathmore clubman has brought a rich pedigree from junior golf into the senior scene. Won 2000 and 1999 Irish Youths. Won 2000 Irish Amateur and South of Ireland championships. Won 2000 World Universities championship. Finished runner-up in 2000 European strokeplay championship. In 2001 Palmer Cup team. All-American, 2001.

Richard McEvoy (Age: 22, England): Has made a huge impact this season, securing a debut Walker Cup appearance thanks to victories in the Lytham Trophy and Irish Amateur strokeplay. He was a semi-finalist in the 1999 British Amateur Championship.

Steven O'Hara (Age: 21, Scotland): Scottish International, 2001-1999. Won 2001 St Andrews Links Trophy. Won 1998 Scottish Boys. Won 2000 Scottish Amateur. On 2000 St Andrews Trophy and 2000 Eisenhower Trophy teams.

Marc Warren (Age: 20, Scotland): Scottish International, 2001-2000. Runner-up, 2001 Champion of Champions. Runner-up, 2000 Scottish Stroke Play. Semi-finalist, 2000 Scottish Amateur.

Gary Wolstenholme (Age: 40, England): His fourth Walker Cup appearance. Played in 1995, 1997 and 1999 matches, including a famous singles win over Tiger Woods at Royal Portcawl in debut year. England International, 1988-2001. Second most capped English player (behind Peter McEvoy). St Andrews Trophy Team, 1992-2000. Won 2001 and 2000 Sherry Cup in Spain. Won 1991 British Amateur Championship.

United States Team

Nick Cassini (Age: 22): Born in Spain, and then lived in Italy until he was 12. The student at the University of Georgia is the son of former tennis tour professional Igor Cassini. Took three and a half points out of four in assisting US to victory over Britain and Ireland in Palmer Cup collegiate tournament this season.

Erik Compton (Age: 21): First Walker Cup appearance. Another product of the University of Georgia, he won three out of four matches in Palmer Cup. Took up golf after receiving a heart transplant and was advised to play the sport as part of his rehabilitation.

James Driscoll (Age: 23): This Bostonian delayed joining the professional ranks until after the Walker Cup. He was runner-up to Jeff Quinney in last year's US amateur and captured headlines in the United States when he fired an opening-round 68 in this year's US Masters at Augusta.

David Egar (Age: 49): Making his third Walker Cup appearance, he was runner-up in the US amateur championship but has more than 12 major amateur titles to his name. A course consultant and designer.

Lucas Glover (Age: 21): A student at Clemson University, he has 19 top-10 finishes in his collegiate career and was a member of the Palmer Cup team for the past two years. Is a grandson of former Pittsburgh Steelers American Football star Dick Hendley.

Danny Green (Age: 44): A self-taught player, he won the 1999 US Mid-Amateur championship and has played in two US Masters.

John Harris (Age: 49): His fourth Walker Cup appearance - he played in 1993, 1995 and 1997 - he is unbeaten in six previous singles appearances. Former US amateur champion.

Bryce Molder (Age: 22): Playing in his second Walker Cup match, he is expected to turn professional in the near future. While playing golf with Bill Clinton in August 1999, he shot a career-best round of 60 - and, this year, won the US collegiate player of the year award with a stroke average that bettered the previous record held by Tiger Woods.

Jeff Quinney (Age: 22): Won last year's US amateur title with a 30-foot birdie on the 39th hole against James Driscoll. This year he was a member of the winning US Palmer Cup collegiate team in the annual match with Britain and Ireland.

DJ Trahan (Age: 20): Making his Walker Cup debut, this student at Clemson College won last year's Public Links championship.
