There were thrills and spills at Ballinrobe yesterday evening with Wayne Smith and Orlando Kelly coming off worst in a seven-race card full of incident.

Smith was lucky to escape with just a one-day suspension and a severe caution from the stewards after an altercation in the jockey's room with Colm O'Donoghue which left Aidan O'Brien's apprentice visibly shaken.

Kelly was taken to hospital for x-rays on his neck and left leg after being unseated from Paynestown Lad when his saddle slipped in the McHale Engineering Rated Race.

Kieran Gaule was another to suffer misfortune in the John McMahon Contractor Handicap Chase where his mount Swing West fell three out when holding a sizeable lead.
