Men's Hockey: While Harlequins, Cork C of I and Lisnagarvey took their anticipated slots in the All-Ireland quarter-finals, the weekend activity in Leinster brought the outer fringes of Dublin hockey into the spotlight at Serpentine Avenue yesterday when Portrane beat the holders, Weston, 4-3, in the Division Two final for the Neville Davin Cup.
Portrane fought back three times from arrears as Ivan Eustace, Matthew McCann and Chris Neville cancelled out Weston scores from Joey Benzies and Shane O'Hare (2). Neville put away the third equaliser and notched the late "golden goal".
The remaining Munster Senior League match at Garryduff on Saturday saw Harlequins and C of I finish 2-2 which was whipped up in the first 18 minutes. Twice C of I dashed ahead through Ali Dunne and Jason Lynch but David Eakins and Conor Harte replied quickly. Harlequins will be on full leash for next weekend's visit to Glenanne.
In Cork, C of I face the Ulster title-holders, Annadale in their first-leg tie.
Pembroke Wanderers, having retained the Leinster laurels, will be travelling first to Havelock Park next Saturday to face Lisnagarvey, who defeated Instonians 3-1 to claim the third Ulster berth in the all-Ireland competition. Although Andrew Cousins gave Instonians a first-half lead, Ivan Steen (2) and Tim Cockram emphasised Lisnagarvey's sharper striking ability.
Aer Lingus, by finishing second in Leinster, have reached the knockout stages for the first time, against Banbridge.
