AFTER two laps of a hard 40-mile circuit at Carlow yesterday there was a very tight finish to the Des Hanlon memorial race promoted by the Dan Morrissey's club and Ciaran Power got the verdict over Ray Clarke with Karl Donnelly third.

It was fitting that this trio were out in front at the end as they had been to the fore throughout. Power and Clarke both thought they had won and opinions were divided among onlookers but when the judges' slips were handed in and checked first place went to Power.

The Dublin Wheelers TQ Paper two-day race for women was dominated by the British contingent with Louise Jones the overall winner by just one second from Emma Davies.
