The best is yet to come from Cork City, promised their goal-scoring midfield sensation, Colin O'Brien, after their precious two-goal win over defending champions, Derry City, at Turners Cross yesterday. O'Brien sent Cork on their way to victory with a perfectly-executed, first-time volley that fairly flew into the net, but instead of basking in the glory of his strike, the player immediately began to focus on next week and his side's trip to Drogheda.
"We are not focusing on any one game this year. Yes, it is nice to win and we are in a lovely position, but that will mean nothing if we don't continue to pick up points.
"Today's result was all about team effort. From Phil Harrington in goal to the front-runners, we all put in 100 per cent and we have the reward now that we are back on top of the league.
"This time last year, we had lost our three opening games and were being written off as relegation candidates, but today's result shows how far we have come in 12 months," said O'Brien. Cork sealed their victory in the 54th minute when O'Brien turned provider, heading Kelvin Flanagan's free kick into the path of Noel Hartigan, who made no mistake from close range.
Cork are now the only team in the Premier Division with a 100 per cent record after their opening three games and have yet to concede a goal.
