A serious Vodafone Oaks gamble took shape yesterday as punters piled in to Kilting amidst reports that she was working better than favourite Zahrat Dubai.

The Godolphin-owned pair worked over a mile on grass in Newmarket yesterday. It is understood that Frankie Dettori has elected to stand by Zahrat Dubai in the Oaks because connections insist that that filly was not asked any questions in her work.

Dubai Millennium, one of Godolphin's Vodafone Derby hopes, worked satisfactorily in a separate spin and Dettori is to decide on his mount in that race after stablemate Adair has worked today. Bookmakers William Hill took evasive action as they slashed Kilting to 7 to 1 from 25 to 1, while pushing Zahrat Dubai out to 7 to 4 from 5 to 4. And Coral now quote just 4 to 1 down from 20 to 1.

Kilting has had just one run this season when third to Alabaq in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket. She won her only start as a juvenile when trained by Barry Hills, landing a seven furlong Doncaster maiden.
