THERE were cycling wins at Blarney and Dundalk yesterday for Brian Quinn and Paul Helion. while victory on Saturday, in the race that finished near Clonee, went to Willie Byrne.
In the Kiely Cup, over a loop of 44 miles from Blarney to Tower, last week's Navan winner, David Hourigan, was not as sprightly and had to settle for fifth place, nine seconds behind fellow Limerick man Brian Quinn, who had four seconds to spare over another club mate Kieran McMahon.
In the Dundalk Cycle Traders Cup handicap, Helion led the way at the end of the 63 miles from Roger Looby, with John Nolan third. Ross Blayney recorded the fastest time.
There was a very close bunch sprint at the finish of Saturday's Mid Eastern Region's league race over 43 miles and Byrne got the verdict over Keith Bannon with Colm Bracken next. Micheal Fitzgerald was close up fourth and he leads the league.
