CRICKET:MEMORIES OF past and present successes will imbue Railway Union and Clontarf in today's Lewis Hohn Williams Leinster Senior Cup at College Park (11pm).

Clontarf’s memories are the fresher ones as they go in search of a fourth straight title in the 60-over competition.

For Railway, you have to go back as far as 1967 for their only triumph, when a fine all-round display from the late Joey O’Meara helped them defeat Phoenix by 127 runs.

Railway certainly have form on their side after seeing off North County in their delayed semi-final during the week and they welcome back Ireland internationals Trent Johnston and Kevin O’Brien.

Clontarf have been hit by the loss of Ireland batsman Andrew Poynter through a shoulder injury, while talented young pace bowler Jordan Coghlan is in action with the Ireland Under-19 side.

There Senior Cup kingpin in recent years has been professional Rod Hokin, the Australian averaging 130 with the bat and having taken 32 wickets at 11.28.

With Ireland international Alex Cusack also in their ranks, Clontarf know exactly how to win this competition. Even still, Railway look on course to rediscover that winning feeling, 43 years down the line.

Meanwhile, Waringstown will host Merrion in the semi-finals of the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup following a 23-run victory over The Hills at Milverton last night.
