As if the remaining league fixtures weren't congested enough, yesterday's heavy rain across the country caused four games to be postponed.

Most disappointing was the NHL Division 1A clash between Limerick and Clare, which was the victim of a water-logged Gaelic Grounds. Also called off in the hurling league was the meeting between Cavan and Mayo in Division Three.

Antrim's trip to Wicklow for their NFL Division 2A game turned out to be wasted one. Referee Seamus McCormack called off the game 20 minutes before the start. The meeting in Division 2B of Wexford and Carlow was also called off.

The Munster Council will this evening hear a request from Cork to defer Thursday's Munster under-21 football final against Limerick by one week.

Limerick will also be making a plea to council to switch the venue for the match from the Gaelic Grounds to Kilmallock.

Cork are not anxious to play because of Nemo Rangers' involvement in the All-Ireland club football final at Easter.
